In the day and age that we live in, it’s now more important than ever that we keep our minds on God’s word. No matter what you’re going through, or whatever you are facing, take the time to remind God of his word.
God has said that his word is even above his name. He is so faithful to his word that even in the Old Testament he repented in front of Moses for desiring to take out all the Israelites. That is absolutely amazing.
As soon as the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, Moses led them through the desert to Mount Sinai. The mountain was moving and shaking. It was covered with a lot of smoke, and there was fire everywhere. It was at that very moment that God was saying that this is where he is now.
And as many people know, it was at this mountain that God gave the 10 Commandments to his people. In doing so, he was letting them know how they were to operate in this world. He also let them know that he was jealous of them.
God Is The One True God
God was essentially saying, “Don’t you forget that I am god. I am the one who delivered you from Egypt. I love you, and I’m jealous of you so don’t forget that. I don’t want you worshipping anything or anyone else but me. I am the only one that you are to lift up.”
Incredibly, in no time the Israelites did forget all that God said. Well, Moses was on the top of the mountain taking time with the Lord, and the Israelites were steered off course down below. Since Moses had been gone for quite some time, they decided to use some gold, build a calf and then worship it. And then to make matters worse, they began to declare that it was the cat that delivered them from the hands of the Egyptians.
This is a life lesson for us all. It is far too easy to forget what God has done for us. It is essential for us to continually keep his word and his promises in front of our eyes and in our hearts. Suffice it to say, God was furious with the Israelites for what they had done. And it was at that moment that he said to Moses that he wanted to destroy them.
Remind God
Thankfully, Moses told God not to do it. He reminded him of who he was. He asked him to be merciful and kind and not wipe out the Israelites. He told God to turn from his fierce wrath. That took incredible courage.
From this story, we can see how God wants us to act. He wants us to remind him of who he is and his promises. That’s exactly what Moses did, and God acted on that.
God is looking for people to stand in the gap and offer up prayers of intercession for situations and people. It was at that moment when Moses reminded God of who he was that he changed his mind and remembered what he had promised.
It wasn’t so much that he forgot what he said, but he knew that in the future, people would read his word and learn a great lesson from that moment. All of us faced trials and tribulations. The most important thing is what we are going to do about it.
Knowing who you are in Christ and what God has done for you sets the stage for you to remind God of his promises. When Moses told the Lord about who he was and what he should do, the Israelites received.
The Bible says that God is no respecter of persons. When you look into his word and read the Scriptures remember to talk to God about them. Remind him of what he promised and speak it over your circumstances. When you do, you’ll see change arrive.
